the owners approached us with a need to resolve a 1950’s designed house layout with a 21st century lifestyle and take advantage of city view, light and ventilation. another major problem to overcome was the distance and slope from carport to the main living areas of the house.

minor alterations upstairs moved the kitchen to what was a living/ dining space and 4 bedrooms, bathroom and ensuite.

additional living and deck take advantage of the views and breezes at the front while a rear deck  with retaining/ terracing connected the house to the ground at the rear. the result is a large open living/ kitchen space distinct from the more private bedroom spaces.

a staircase and flat cantilevered roofs bring the entry as close to the carport as possible. the spaces under the existing and new parts of the house have been excavated and retained and provide for storage, laundry and kids space.
